From Tiny Homes to Outdoor Living, Seattle Home Show to Feature all That’s Hot for the Northwest Home

Tiny homes to she sheds, from kitchen vignettes to outdoor living displays, Northwesterners will be able to see all the best and newest for the home when the Seattle Home Show, the oldest and largest consumer home show in the country, opens its doors February 17 through 25 at CenturyLink Field Event Center.

Small is big, color is back and Millennials are now starting to move into the local housing market. Millennials furnishing their first homes are often turning to antiques and other collectibles (sometimes from garage sales and thrift stores) as they feel they are more durable than mass produced products made today. So say exhibitors at the Seattle Home Show, who represent the leading building, design and construction professionals in the Puget Sound.

At this year’s show, small will be especially prevalent, and not just tiny homes. Think of small structures of all types – backyard studios, detached home offices and even “She Sheds” – as Millennials look for new alternatives in housing, Baby Boomers downsize and homeowners across the board become more conscious of maximizing their spaces.

Year-round outdoor living (including heaters, fireplaces and kitchens) are another key trend at the show, such as the Outdoor Living and Wine & Food Garden, where show visitors not only can see the latest ideas and designs but sample food and wine while listening to live music.

Millennials and others looking for advice on furnishing their homes with antiques, collectibles or garage sale and thrift store finds can come to the show to hear appraiser Dr. Lori, star expert of the History Channel’s The Curse of Oak Island, who will also be providing free on-the-spot appraisals of items brought in by show visitors Feb. 19 and Feb. 20.

Among the highlight of this year’s Seattle Home Show are:

  • Small structures of all types, from tiny homes to backyard studios and detached home offices, including several display communities of tiny homes and small buildings
  • Swim/Bike/Run, an onsite charity event where local athletes of all ages compete to raise money for affordable housing. Sponsored by Seattle Home Show, BECU and Aqua Quip
  • Outdoor Living and Wine & Food Garden presented by Sleep Number and designed by London Design Build, featuring a series of outdoor living vignettes. Show visitors can also sample wine and food while listening to live music.
  • Free art, antique and collectibles appraisals by star appraiser Dr. Lori of the History Channels The Curse of Oak Island (Monday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 20 only)
  • Complimentary one year subscription to Better Homes & Garden magazine with each paid admission
  • Daily home improvement seminars on a wide range of topics, both for the interior and exterior of the home, courtesy of Matvey Foundation Repair, Inc.

Parking

Parking for the Seattle Home Show is available at CenturyLink Field Event Center Parking Garage, CenturyLink Field North Lot, and Safeco Field Garage.
