Kent School District's summer lunch program to start June 25

June 23, 2012 · Updated 9:43 PM

Kent School District sponsors free summer lunches for children 18 and under during June, July and August.

The Summer Lunch Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is a partnership between Kent School District Food and Nutrition Services, the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the USDA.

The program was established to ensure that during school vacation periods children could continue to receive the same high-quality meals that are provided during the school year.

The program resulted from awareness of the critical importance of proper nutrition to children, and a belief that school vacations should not end the availability of nutritious meals for many children.
