'Shop with a Cop' event Saturday at Covington WalMart

December 14, 2012 · Updated 11:12 PM

Over 450 under-privileged kids are expected to receive a $50 holiday shopping spree and the chance to “Shop with a Cop” at WalMart in Covington Saturday.

Hosted by the King County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Greater King County Police Activities League, this annual event gives children ages 6 months to 15 years old the opportunity to interact with law enforcement in a non-traditional and positive way.

Funds for this event came primarily from the Maple Valley Rotary Club. Each child can use the $50 to purchase toys and gifts for themselves, siblings or family members of their choice.

The Greater Maple Valley Community Center and local school counselors helped identify families in need.

Kids attending this event are primarily from south King County communities
