Cedar Heights Middle School to host inaugural spelling bee

February 5, 2013 · Updated 7:51 PM

Cedar Heights Middle School's PTSA members are searching for students to participate in its inaugural spelling bee.

The PTSA will host the competition March 2 for students in fourth through sixth grade.

There is no cost to participate. Students must register in advance and registration is limited to the first 65 students in each grade. The deadline to register is Feb. 25. Register by sending the student's name, phone and email address as well as school, grade and teacher to chms.spellingbee@gmail.com.

Grade level bee-offs begin at 9 a.m. with the finals set to start at 10:15 a.m.

The overall winner of the spelling bee will take home a Kindle Fire tablet and will advance to the regional Scripps Spelling Bee set for March 24 in Seattle.

In addition to this being an educational event for students, it is a fundraiser for the Cedar Heights PTSA, with money raised going to support the school's language arts programs. More information, including spelling lists and rules, can be found on the PTSA's website at www.cedarheightsptsa.org/spellingbee.
