Maple Valley Creative Arts Council Updates
Open Mic Night
The next Open Mic will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 at The Maple Valley Creative Art Center. Come celebrate Valentine's Day with us! Check-in at 6:30 p.m., performances begin at 7 p.m. EJ's Catering will be on hand with a tasty buffet menu.
Art Rotations at the Creative Arts Center
MVCAC is excited to be hosting artist Cathi Christianson. Cathi has been creating art in some form or another for as long as she can remember. She recalls, in grade school, hurrying up and doing her assigned schoolwork so she could spend time on her art - even skipping recess at times. Cathi was an art docent for many years at Rock Creek Elementary. She currently teaches adult and children’s art classes at Lake Wilderness Park through Maple Valley Parks and Recreation. When not playing with her artistic materials, Cathi likes to walk her dogs, hike, ride her bike, and think of creative meals to cook.
Third Word Wednesday
Join us for the new story telling evening at the Maple Valley Creative Art Council! If you have a story to share, written or from memory, fiction or non-fiction, come tell it on the third Wednesday of every month! The next night will be Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. with each story teller having between 5 and 10 minutes depending on participation. Coffee and cookies will be provided. If you have a book to promote, please bring it with you!
Creative Collaboration Critique Group
Beginning Feb. 13 and continuing every second Wednesday we’ll be starting a critique group for artists in the area. It will be a great opportunity to connect with other artists from around the Maple Valley. We’ll be meeting at the Maple Valley Creative Arts building at 7 p.m. This group is your chance to ask for feedback from fellow artists and to give encouraging feedback as well. This group is unique in that we are inviting all different types of artists to come together — painting/drawing, writing, photography, fiber arts, sculpture, etc. Feel free to invite other artist you think would be interested. Please bring in any work that represents where you are as an artist.
Book Release Party, Signing and Performance!
Malorie Spreen's first book of poetry "The Underneath and In Between" will be released on Friday, March 29 with a celebration and performance at the Maple Valley Creative Art Center at 7 p.m. A CD will be available as an accompaniment to the book with all poems read by the author. Malorie has been writing poetry for many years and began performing 3 years ago, finding balance between the stage and the page. She is the director of communications for the MVCAC where she is the Open Mic MC and hosts Third Word Wednesdays for storytelling and spoken word of all kinds. She is also the treasurer of Seattle Freelances, a writing group for authors, publishers and others involved in the literary world. Come join us for a poetry fueled party and good time!
