Harjehausen top choice for Covington City Council | Letter to the Editor

I am sending this in recommendation for Jennifer Harjehausen as she pursues her goal of becoming a board member of the Covington City Council.

I have known Jennifer for several years through PTA and have found her to be intelligent, thoughtful and a positive influence when dealing with staff, students, parents and her community. Her commitment to her own family and the families she touches on a daily basis is outstanding.

She has held many executive board positions at various PTA’s in the Kent School District and her experience in the nonprofit arena has provided her with leadership, listening, problem solving skills and many others required to run a “business” such as PTA.

She is the current legislation chair at Cedar Valley and has filled that position for approximately five years, she has held the president and vice president positions there as well and spearheaded the transition from 501(c)4 to a 501(c)3 to better support the school. She ran the Save Cedar Valley campaign which resulted in the school not be shut down as planned. She has also served at higher level PTA positions on Kent Area Council PTA including vice president and legislation chair coordinating a televised candidate’s forum for candidates from the 33rd and 44th Legislative Districts. She also participated in the Family Engagement Task for in updating the Kent School Districts family engagement policy.

Jennifer is currently on the Arts Commission and the prepac chair for the City of Covington. She has also served as the treasurer and is a board chair this year and will begin her term as vice chair for the Covington Co-Op Preschool.

Jennifer is entrenched in her community and has the knowledge, expertise, heart, consideration and skill to serve the Covington City Council. She will be a great asset.
