The spirit of giving was alive and well at Four Corners in Maple Valley Friday.
Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety firefighters collected about $11,000 for the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Fill The Boot fundraising campaign.
The event was organized by firefighter Jason Fox, who began the fundraiser for the fire department seven years ago.
Fox said the fundraiser began in 2004 when a mother of a child with muscular dystrophy living in the area asked to get it started.
"We started it the first year in the Safeway parking lot," Fox said.
After the first year the firefighters moved to the Four Corners intersection.
The firefighters and volunteers were at the intersection this year holding boots for donations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Fox said some of the firefighters will be in Seattle Monday for the MDA Telethon.
