50-year-old Maple Valley resident killed in three-vehicle accident | Update

A 50-year-old Maple Valley resident Randall P. Britts was killed in an accident Jan. 9 on the Maple Valley Highway, according to the King County Medical Examiner. Another Maple Valley resident was seriously injured.

The accident occurred at around 4 p.m. near the 16000 block of Maple Valley Highway when a vehicle traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes of travel, colliding with a vehicle, which was then struck from the rear by a third vehicle.

Britts was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries and died several hours later. It is not known at this time which vehicle he was driving.

The other Maple Valley resident, a 17-year-old, was transported to Harborview with severe trauma to his leg and continues to be treated for his injuries.

The third driver, a 27-year-old man from Burien, was transported to Valley Medical Center for observation and has been released.

According to Renton Police, alcohol or drugs were not contributing factors to the collision.

The Maple Valley Highway was closed for several hours for the investigation.
