Maple Valley City Council approves ordinance creating civil infraction for marijuana in public

The Maple Valley City Council approved an ordinance at their Dec. 10 that adopts Initiative 502 into the municipal code.

The ordinance creates a civil infraction for opening a package containing marijuana, or consuming marijuana or a marijuana-infused product in view of the general public.

Initiative 502 was approved by Washington voters in the November election 55.7 percent to 44.3 percent.
