Black Diamond City Councilman Joe May resigned his seat Tuesday, Feb. 5.

May was elected in 2011 to Position No. 3 beating Pam McCain 1,143 to 357.

The city is seeking applications for the position from residents.

The term will run until the Nov. 5 general election.

The position will be filled by an applicant who is appointed by a majority of the City Council.

May is the second council member to resign in the past 13 months. Bill Saas resigned Jan. 21, 2012. He won his seat in November 2009. Councilwoman Carol Benson was appointed by the council to fill the vacancy.

There will be three council seats up for election in November and the mayor's position. The council seats on the ballot will be Position No. 2 currently held by Councilman Craig Goodwin, May's seat Position No. 3 and Benson's seat Position No. 4. Rebecca Olness is currently serving her first term as mayor.

Black Diamond's form of government is strong mayor with five council members.

May has not returned a call for comment.
