New pastor takes over at Cornerstone Church

Cornerstone Church of Covington celebrated the arrival of their new senior pastor Rev. James Murphy earlier this month, following the retirement of Rev. Doug Waite last month.

Murphy, a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, moved to the area with his wife Jenn, two daughters and a son due this fall. He received his undergraduate degree at Western Washington University and his Masters in Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey.

He completed seven years serving with Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church in northern Idaho before spending the last four ministering to a growing population at Ridgefield Community United Methodist Church outside of Portland-Vancouver.

Rev. Waite served Cornerstone for two years after completing 30 years of service as a chaplain in the US Navy at the rank of Captain. He and his family will remain in Covington and continue their work with healing ministries.

Cornerstone Church, located at 20730 SE 272nd St., was established in 1993.
