Fire explorers win trophies at national competition

The Zone Three Fire Explorers earned first place trophies and several plaques during the National Fire/Emergency Services Exploring Conference held in Bloomington, Ind.

The Zone Three crew, which serves Maple Valley, Renton, Tukwila and SeaTac, consisted of 10 Explorers and eight adult advisers. The conference was held July 14-19. They participated in individual and team competitions that included:

• CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator

• Spinal Immobilization

• Hazardous Materials Recognition and Identification

• Search and Rescue

• Firefighter Combat Challenge

• Incident Management

• Knot Tying

The Explorers won first place in:

• Hazardous Materials Recognition and Identification

• Making a Hydrant (connecting hose to a hydrant)

• Make and Break (connecting and disconnecting fire hose sections)

• Team CPR and AED
