A teenage male died after falling into the Green River at Kanaskat-Palmer State Park in the Ravensdale are late Monday afternoon.

The exact cause of his death wasn't known and his name wasn't released, but authorities said he struck his head on a rock and disappeared under water. Friends who were unable to find him after 10 or 15 minutes called 9-1-1 at about 4:30 p.m. while several bystanders continued searching for him. Approximately 95 later, divers recovered his body in a deep pool of water near where he fell in, according to the Kent Fire Department, which assisted in the recovery.

A spokesman for the department said the search for the teen was hampered by limited access to the river. Chainsaws and other tools were needed in order to widen a trail for rescue equipment.

The spokesman said the incident occurred near where a kayaker's boat overturned June 28, prompting a call for rescuers. The kayaker was pulled to safety by other people.

Firefighters from Maple Valley, King County Fire District 47, and Renton also responded to the call, along with county paramedics, the King County Sheriff Department and state park rangers.
