A teenage male died after falling into the Green River at Kanaskat-Palmer State Park in the Ravensdale area late Monday afternoon.

The exact cause of his death wasn’t known and his name wasn’t released, but authorities said he struck his head on a rock and disappeared under water. Friends who were unable to find him after 15 minutes called 9-1-1 at about 4:30 p.m. while bystanders continued searching for him. Approximately 95 minutes later, divers recovered his body in a deep pool of water near where he fell in, according to the Kent Fire Department, which assisted in the recovery along with firefighters from Maple Valley and other agencies.

Chainsaws helped widen a trail for rescue equipment to reach the site, authorities said.
