Public can hear, talk about Fire District 44 measure

King County Fire District 44/Mountain View Fire and Rescue will host a public meeting Oct. 14 for a discussion of the district’s ballot measure in the Nov. 4 general election.
During the meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. at Fire Station 95 at 32316 148th Ave. SE., the district’s commissioners want to inform constituents and receive their comments about the general obligation bond.
If passed by voters, the bond will be used to replace existing emergency equipment, repair several fire stations and replace one station that was originally a one-room schoolhouse before being converted into a fire station in 1960.
The district plans to use the funds to maintain current levels of service, a spokesman said.
Residents of the city of Black Diamond and Fire District 17 won’t be impacted by the bond measure and shouldn’t have it on their ballots, according to District 44 officials.
District 44 was formed in 1953. In 2006, it began providing fire protection and emergency services for Black Diamond. The district serves a combined population of more than 32,000 in an area of 70 square miles and answers about 2,000 calls a year, officials said.
