Covington and Maple Valley voters sent in mail-in ballots to select a new director of elections for King County and as of 9 p.m. Tuesday Sherril Huff was leading the six candidates with 44 percent.

Huff is the director of records, elections and licensing for the county and has served in the position since 2007.

Also running for this position, which was previously appointed by the King County Council, were David Irons, Julie Kempf, Bill Anderson, Christopher Clifford and Pam Roach.

As of Tuesday evening about 15 percent of the ballots had been counted. Votes will continue to be counted through Feb. 18.
