The Kent Fire Department and Fire District 37 responded to a house fire at noon today (Thursday) in the 25300 block of 157 Pl. S.E. Covington.
According to a release sent by Capt. Kyle Ohashi, the fire was reported by neighbors who say smoke coming from the roof of the single story home.
When the firefighters arrived they found the in the roof joists above the ceiling. The firefighters contained the blaze within minutes and did not let it spread to other parts of the house.
Ohasi's release stated the fire investigators determined fire was "accidental and caused by an improperly installed wood stove."
According to the release, "three adults and two children were home at the time of the fire. Everyone was able to escape and no one was injured. Red Cross was requested to assist the family with alternate housing due to the fire damage to the roof and loss of electricity."
Smoke and fire damage to the home was estimated to be about $30,000.
