Political races in Covington, Maple Valley and Black Diamond draw multiple candidates

The King County Elections filing period wrapped up on Friday, and the political playground is in full swing.
Races in Black Diamond, Maple Valley and Covington brought challenged races and a few surprises.
In the run for mayor in Black Diamond Rebecca Olness and incumbent Howard Botts are lined up against each other.
In the seat being vacated by Olness, Position No. 4, three hopefuls tossed their names in the ring, Jim Kuzaro, Paula Koch-Boyd and William Saas.
For seat No. 2 incumbent Geoff Bowie and Craig Goodwin will be on the ballot.
Covington has four incumbent council members on the ballot, but only one has a challenger.
Councilman Mark Lanza, in seat No. 2, will be running against Fawn Sieger .
David Lucavish, No. 4, Wayne Snoey in No. 5 and James Scott, Sr. in seat No. 6 are all unopposed for their council positions.
Maple Valley has three seats up and contested race in all.
For the No. 2 seat, three candidates will appear on the primary ballot: Jim Flynn, Bill Allison and incumbent Deputy Mayor Glenn Smith.
Councilman David Pilgrim, seeking a third term and Erin Weaver, chairperson of the planning commission, are running for seat No. 4.
Stanette Marie Rose is challenging incumbent Victoria Laise Jonas for Position No. 6.
