The city of Black Diamond ended the contract with former City Administrator Gwendolyn Voelpel Sept. 25.

The City Council will be considering approving the appointment of Leonard Smith to the position tonight (Thursday) at regular meeting.

The change of city administrator came as a surprise.

Botts said by phone, "On the advice of the city attorney all I can say is Gwendolyn Voelpel no longer works for the city of Black Diamond. Her last day of employment was Sept. 25."

Botts appointed Smith as the replacement, but the City Council must approve the appointment.

Botts said Smith had previously done work for the city.

According to the resolution confirming Smith's appointment, he would be paid $9,626 per month.
