Black Diamond Elementary School PTA serves Thanksgiving dinner

The Black Diamond Elementary PTA provided free Thanksgiving dinner for more than 120 people Nov. 22 in the school's gymnasium.

The group also sent another approximately 30 "to go" boxes to Black Diamond police, fire and 911 dispatchers with the remaining food, about 75 meals, going to Union Gospel in Seattle to feed the homeless.

"It was a wonderful community event," Black Diamond PTA Vice Preisdent Heather Invie-Notch said. "It was nice to come together and show what a strong, supportive community we are."

It was a community effort, with he local Girl Scouts decorated all the pinecone turkeys that were on the tables and served the pies and helped with the whipped cream. Their parents stayed and helped throughout and stayed after to clean.

A Cub Scout come and helped as well. Debbie Couch, the Black Diamond Elementary music teacher, played piano to entertain guests, as well as a pair of teenagers from Lake Sawyer Christian Church who played guitar and sang.

"All our guests raved about the food, pilgrim hat decorations and mostly about the leaves that were on the trees that the school children wrote what they were thankful for on," Invie-Notch said.
