The city of Maple Valley received 13 applications from citizens interested in becoming a City Council member.

The city accepted applications through Jan. 29. A vacancy on the council was created when Laure Iddings resigned her seat Jan. 1.

Iddings had been on the council and served as mayor since the city was incorporated in August 1997. She had two years remaining to serve on her term.

The City Council will interview the 13 candidates during two special meetings, the first 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake Wildnerness Lodge in the Maple Room and the second meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the lodge.

Tuesday the council members will interview John Arwine, Patrick Jaybush, Thomas Ewing, Eric Christensen, Katherine Turner and Les Scott.

Thursday the members will interview Loran Lichty, Karen Crowe, DeAnn Rossetti, Marcia McCarthy, Glenn Akramoff, Dana Parnello and Tiffany Dauer-Whitchurch.

The council can discuss the qualifications of the candidates in executive session, but the decision and vote must be completed in an open meeting.

• Appointments

The council approved the appointment of four members to the Economic Development Council and two for the Planning Commission at the Feb. 1 meeting

Heather Maggio, Griffin Meyers and Greg Owens were appointed as voting members of the EDC and Mark Lewis was chosen as an alternate.

Thomas Conway and Bryan Hesse were appointed as alternates to the Planning Commission.

Vacancies arose on EDC because terms expired and on planning because Erin Weaver was elected to the City Council in November. She had served as chair of the commission.
