Black Diamond Labor Days this weekend

Black Diamond organizers are gearing up for the 102nd year of the city’s Labor Days celebration.

The three-day festival, carrying the theme “Experience A New adventure,” gets rolling at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, and wraps up at 4 p.m. Monday. Most activities will take place at the elementary school ball field.

Here are a few of the scheduled highlights:

• things kick off at 4 Saturday afternoon with a community talent show and karaoke night. All are invited to participate, from kids to adults, novices to professionals.

• following Saturday’s music, Cub Scout Pack 581 will host bingo under the tent on the ball field grounds, complete with prizes and awards.

• at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the Disney film “Moana” will be shown outdoors. The local Masonic Lodge will be providing popcorn and other treats.

• Sunday events begin with “doggie day,” open to leashed pets of all breeds, and continues with a pie baking contest. Pie entries will be taken at 11 a.m. at the main stage with judging at 11:30; then, the entries will be sold by the slice. There are numerous categories to enter.

• Throughout Sunday, a variety of games, free peanuts and candy and a car show at the Eagles Lodge.

• Monday begins at 7 a.m. with breakfast at the Masonic Hall. The traditional Labor Day parade gets rolling at 10 a.m. and field games for all ages begin at 2 p.m.

Ongoing events include live music throughout the three-day weekend, a display of vintage trailers and vendor booths. Food trucks will be available Sunday and Monday.
