City of Maple Valley Waste Collection Service Schedule and Recycling Reminder

There will be no waste collection on Dec. 25

Recology CleanScapes and Republic Services will not provide collection services on Tuesday, Dec. 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday.

The holiday week collection schedule will be as follows:

  • Monday, Dec. 24: no change
  • Tuesday, Dec. 25: collection will occur the following day, Wednesday, Dec. 26.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 26: collection will occur the following day, Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • Thursday, Dec. 27: collection will occur the following day, Friday, Dec. 28.
  • Friday, Dec. 28: collection will occur the following day, Saturday, Dec. 29.

Help keep recyclables empty, clean and dry this holiday season. Recycle right all year long by rinsing out leftover contents of bottles, tubs, jugs and making sure they are dry before placing them in recycling carts.

Residual food or liquid in the bin causes contamination of other recyclable items, making it more difficult to recycle and turn materials into new products.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that between Thanksgiving and New Years the amount of household waste increases by 25 percent. Consider using reusable gift bags whenever possible, but remember, gift-wrapping paper is recyclable, and foiled paper or Mylar wrap belong in the trash.

Looking to cut down on food waste this holiday season? Remember that all leftover food scraps — meat, bones, dairy, tea bags, coffee paper filters, greasy pizza boxes and kitchen napkins can be tossed in the green bin along with your yard waste. No baby diapers, pet waste, glass or plastics.

Take a moment to review your 2019 service guides, and if you are uncertain about how to dispose of a particular item, contact your hauler.
