Drama is brewing at Kentlake and Tahoma high school

Upcoming high school productions began Nov. 11

Tahoma High School Drama revives a comedy classic, “You Can’t Take it with You” this weekend, Nov. 11 and 12 and next weekend, Nov. 18 and 19. The play is a hilarious and heartwarming comedy. It’s a rendition of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play directed by Paul Rempfer with 1930’s era costumes by Jeanine Girello.

The play is about three generations of a strange and idealistic family, the Sycamores. They have been living their crazy lives together in their Manhattan home pursuing whatever makes them happy. When one of their daughters becomes engaged to a bank vice president, Tony Kirby, the families plan on meeting. When the crazy Sycamores and the Kirby’s meet it ends up being a fiasco with everyone in the house getting arrested. Some defining moments come out of the situation, and the two families decide what’s most important in life.

Performances are at the Tahoma Middle School Theatre. Tickets are sold at the door beginning one hour before showtime. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and $5 for children under 5.

Show times are Nov. 11,12, 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. with Saturday matinees at 2 p.m.

Kentlake High School Drama will be presenting “A Christmas Story, The Musical” in December. The musical is based on the story by Jean Shepherd with book by Joseph Robinette.

The play is based on the 1983 movie, “A Christmas Story”. It is a story about Ralphie Parker’s desperate quest to make sure that the most perfect gifts end up under his tree for Christmas. All of the classic moments are in the play, including the Old Man’s leg lamp, the tongue stuck on the flagpole, the pink bunny suit, the Santa slide and all of Ralphie’s extravagant daydreams.

The cast is made up of Kentlake High School middle and elementary school students from the Kent Community and Kent School District.

Show times are Dec. 1-3 and 8-10. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for ASB, Senior and children under 12. Tickets an be purchased at the door or online at brownpapertickets.com
