Free ice skating on appreciation day

For the third year in a row, the Bellevue Downtown Association and the King County Library System is offering free admission to the Bellevue Downtown ice rink from 3 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 for cardholders for Library Appreciation Day.

Kentlake grad graduates military training

U.S. Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Kevin L. Hernandez graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas.

He completed an eight week program where he was trained in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare skills.

Hernandez also earned four credits toward an associate degree through Community College of the Air Force.

Hernandez graduated from Kentlake High School in 2017.

Christmas gift program

The Maple Valley Food Bank is collecting gifts for its annual Christmas gift program.

The food bank is looking for new, unwrapped gifts for newborns to 12 year olds.

As well as $25 gift cards for kids ages 13 to 18.

The food bank is asking for all items to be dropped off before Dec. 10.

Drop off locations include: Maple Valley Food Bank, Maple Valley Library, Maple Valley Community Center, Maple Valley Fire Station No. 80, MultiCare Covington and Covington Library.

Covington Tree Lighting Event

The city of Covington will be hosting it’s Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 1 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The event will be held at the Don Henning Roundabout by the Covington Fred Meyer.

There will be live music to kick off the event starting at 4 p.m. and Covington Service clubs will be serving hot cocoa and cider, popcorn and cookies.

The city of Covington will be offering ornament crafting at the event as well.

The tree will be lit starting at 5 p.m. and Santa will ride around on a fire truck at 5:30 p.m.
