There was cause for celebration at the Oct. 10 Maple Valley City Council Meeting. Laura Philpot was sworn in as the city manager during the meeting.

After months of being the interim city manager and weeks of meetings held by the City Council to talk about the position, the council approved Philpot’s contract and swore her in at the meeting. A small celebration with cake took place during the meeting to congratulate Philpot on the position.

After being sworn in, Philpot gave a speech about how excited she was to be the city manager in such a great city like Maple Valley.

“I want to keep Maple Valley a great place to live in,” Philpot said.
