School board approves two resolutions

The Kent School District Board passed two resolutions, 1528 and 1529, calling for a special election in February, a release stated.

Two propositions would be submitted for voters on supporting education programs, operations, technology and capital improvements, the release added.

The Replacement Educational Programs and Operation Levy is a two year replacement levy providing nearly 20 percent of the district’s overall budget, the release stated.

The Technology and Capital Levy is a six year levy that funds technology and district facilities maintenance, according to the release.

Local choir to perform at Wild Waves Theme Park

The choir from Maple View Middle School will be performing Sunday, Dec. 3 at Wild Wave’s opening day celebration.

The park opens at 5 p.m. with a tree lighting scheduled for 6 p.m.

Blood drives for next month

The Cascade Regional Blood Services has two blood drives for the month of December.

The first is from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Kent-Meridian High School. The second is 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 16 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Covington.

Kent librarian receives honor

Mary Vosper, librarian at Grass Lake Elementary School, was named Washington Library Association Outstanding Teacher Librarian of the Year.

Vosper has worked with the Kent School District for the past 17 years.

She was recognized Nov. 4 at the WLA’s fall conference.

Golf tournament winners

The Lake Wilderness Ladies Golf Club held its two-day championship tournament where 16 golfers participated.

The Club Champion was Terry Dairy. Division 1 Low Grass winner was Diane Clavin, Division 1 Low Net was Tanya Chandler, Division 2 Low Grass was Joan Andersen and Division 2 Low Net was Janice Train.

Eva Langdahl was named Most Improved Golfer because she improved her handicap by 10 strokes over the course of the season.
