Thinking of running for office? May 19 is the deadline to file

Candidate filing opens the Monday two weeks prior to Memorial Day.

Community members looking to file for elected office have less than a month to do so. Many positions are opening up that need to be filled, so meeting deadlines to file for elected office should be a priority for those interested.

Candidate filing opens the Monday two weeks prior to Memorial Day and ends the following Friday. The key days for 2017 are as follows:

To file in person a candidate has from Monday, May 15 at 8:30 a.m. until Friday, May 19 at 4:30 p.m.

To file online, the hours are a bit different from filing in person. The online dates are Monday, May 15 at 9 a.m. until Friday, May 19 at 4 p.m.

A candidate may withdraw until the close of business the Monday following the close of candidate filing, or Monday, May 22 at 4:30 p.m.

The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday in August of each year and the general election is held on the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in November of each year. The primary election this year will be Tuesday, Aug. 1. The general election this year will be Tuesday, Nov. 7.
