Cedar Heights librarian nominated to library board

At the Sept. 11 Metropolitan King County Council meeting, Vice Chair Reagan Dunn introduced legislation to appoint Pamela Grad to the King County Library System Board of Trustees.

Grad was a teacher for five years and has been a librarian for 16 years at Cedar Heights Middle School.

Trustees provide oversight including hiring a director, adopting an annual budget, adopting long-term strategic plans and adopting a capital improvement plan.

Two October blood drives scheduled

The Cascade Regional Blood Services has scheduled two local blood drives for next month.

The first is Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the RE/MAX Choice Executives office at 27177 185th Avenue Southeast Suite D-105 in Covington.

The second blood drive is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 from 7 a.m. to noon at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 25810 156th Avenue Southeast in Covington.

Retired metro van donated to Tahoma program

On Sept. 14 Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn presented a retired Metro Vanpool van to the Tahoma School District’s Student Transition Program.

The program helps assist in providing access to job training, student recreation and opportunities to learn life skills.

The program works with 18-21 years old with disabilities learn to work, Rawna Hamann, an instructor with the program said in a media release.

“I am glad to have been able to procure a van for the Tahoma Student Transition Program,” said Dunn in the release. “It is wonderful to know this van will continue to provide a valuable service and help students learn invaluable skills.”

Ed Lontz, a 1946 Tahoma High School graduate and Maple Valley resident, was awarded a 65 year pin for membership in his union, Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers International.

kentwood senior named Wiaa athlete of the week

Kentwood senior Justin Seiber was named Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for the week of Sept. 3 to Sept. 9.

Seiber completed 35 of 57 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns during the Conquerors game against Edmonds-Woodway.

Public hearing scheduled for Oct. 4

The city of Maple Valley Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding a proposed amendment to the city’s municipal code to place restrictions on temporary housing, also known as “tent cities.”

The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Tahoma School District Board Room, 25720 Maple Valley Highway Southeast, Maple Valley.
