LILLIAN ASATO

Lillian Sayomi Asato (Kawasaki) passed away in her home in Maple Valley, WA on June 1, 2017 at the age of 66. She died of complications from lung cancer.

Lillian was born on October 13, 1950 to hard working Nisei (2nd generation) parents Roger and Sayoko Kawasaki in Hilo, HI. Lillian grew up with a large extended family and graduated from Hilo High School in 1968. After graduating from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Math, Lillian pursued and obtained her M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii. Soon after, she met her husband, Dennis K. Asato, while working at the University of Hawaii Computing Center. They both were recruited by Boeing in 1974 after graduating and were married in 1975.

Sacrificing her professional career, she went on to raise four children in Maple Valley, WA full-time. Selfless, thoughtful and caring, Lillian always volunteered in her children’s activities. She also held various positions on the board of the White River Buddhist Temple, local, district, and national level chapters of the Buddhist Women’s Association, and taught Sunday School.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis K. Asato of Maple Valley, WA; four children: Joy Meglasson (David), Eric Asato (Le Ha), Kelsey Asato and Tessa Asato (Nate); and three grandchildren: Kyle, Catie, and Wilson.

Public memorial service will take place for Lillian on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 4pm at the White River Buddhist Temple, 3625 Auburn Way N, Auburn, WA 98002. All are welcome to attend.

Should friends desire, donations may be sent to White River Buddhist Temple.
