Olympics for Bailey?

How fast a swimmer is Chelsea Bailey? Just maybe fast enough to be in the Olympics in the not-too-distant future.

Bailey became the first girl in Washington’s history to break the 50-second barrier in the 100-yard freestyle when she left the competition in her wake by clocking a stunning 49.82 seconds to win that event in the state class 4A high school swimming championships Nov. 15. The old state record of 50.16 seconds was set in 2003 by Emily Silver, a then-Bainbridge High star who went on to be a member of the U.S. swim team in the Olympics last summer.

Time will tell if Bailey becomes an Olympian, too. But it would be no surprise if she does, given that she’s only a sophomore at Kentlake High, with undisputable talent and plenty of prime years as a competitive swimmer ahead of her.
