Support Darcy Burner in 5th District

Let’s not keep kicking these problems down the road!

People always say “this election is the most important one ever,” but this time they’re not wrong. Our state has several significant challenges that can no longer be kicked down the road.

Our 5th Legislative District is growing rapidly, for instance, and our transportation system has not kept pace. As a result, roads like (state) Route 18 are slammed both ways, at both ends, during every rush hour.

And the McCleary decision, requiring public schools to be funded equitably, came down several years ago, yet the situation remains unresolved even as the deadline to fix our system faces a looming cut-off date in the next legislative session.

I’ve discussed these issues extensively with Darcy Burner, who is running for the state Legislature in the 5th Legislative District. I’ve been impressed by Darcy’s thoughtful and creative approach as a policy expert and her experience as a small-business owner in Carnation. Her opponent, on the other hand, has taken the position that the problem with school funding is that teachers make too much money.

Instead of vilifying the very people who educate our children and keep them safe every day, we need people like Darcy who will work to fix the problems.

In what is “the most important election ever,” it’s great to have a candidate like Darcy Burner who, instead of feeling we are voting against someone, we can be excited to be voting for.
