The Washington Horse Racing Commission approved Emerald Downs’ request for an extra day of racing at its 2010 meeting. The additional day, Wednesday, Sept. 22, will feature a special 1:00 p.m. post time, and kicks off closing week of the now 90-day meeting.

“We wanted horsemen to have an extra day of racing, and closing week of the meet is a great fit, ” Emerald Downs’ Director of Marketing Adrian Buchan said. “This also gives us an opportunity to test the appetite for Emerald Downs racing on an atypical day and time. Our fans like the idea of a weekday matinee race card. We will also be working to promote this as a great opportunity for businesses to get out of the office and come to the races.”

Emerald Downs offers live racing through Sunday, Sept. 26. First post is 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day, Monday Sept. 6. There is no Thursday racing in September.

Closing week schedule

1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22

6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24

2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25

2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26
