Roarified takes the Boeing Employees Saddle Club Purse at Emerald Downs | Horse Racing

Owner Jody Peetz said it best after Roarified led all the way Friday for a 1 ¼-length victory in the featured Boeing Employees Saddle Club Purse at Emerald Downs.

“When you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll,” Peetz said. “What can I say? It’s great!”
Indeed Peetz, trainer Chris Stenslie and jockey Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo are on a fabulous roll. Roarified, the only 3-year-old in the race, provided the latest heroics with a gate-to-wire triumph over co 2-1 betting favorites Mirror Pond and Fees Like Rain, who finished second and third in the featured one-mile event.
Roarified was timed in 1:38.27 on a fast track, and paid $22.20, $7.60 and $4.40.
Stenslie has now saddled a winner on five straight cards, including feature-race victories by Hollywood Harbor and Roarified and topped by Monday’s 50-1 shocker by Showme Yourfriends in the $50,000 Auburn Handicap.
Peetz (One Horse Will Do Corp.) either owns or co-owns four of the runners including Showme Yourfriends, Hollywood Harbor and Roarified. Hoonan-Trujillo, meanwhile, rode both Showme Yourfriends and Roarified and is off to her best start ever at Emerald Downs with 26 wins in 23 days.
Roarified might have been overlooked because she was facing older horses and had never raced beyond six furlongs.  But the Washington-bred daughter of Roar was up to the assignment, and now has won three of five career starts for earnings of $13,575.
Cleverly rated on the lead, Roarified set fractions of :24.06, :47.90, 1:13.01 and 1:25.82, led by 1 ½ lengths into the stretch, and held off Mirror Pond for the victory.
Mirror Pond, ridden by Leslie Mawing, held second place and paid $4.20 and $2.40. Feels Like Rain, Gallyn Mitchell riding, was another length back in third and paid $3.
Chilecito, Gizmo Girl and Nina Win rounded out the order of finish.
NOTES: Leslie Mawing and Juan Gutierrez rode two winners each on the eight-race card, and Mawing remains atop the standings with a 34-28 lead over Gutierrez.
Terry Gillihan led the trainers with two wins, saddling both halves of the early daily double with Yetanothernatural ($2.80) and Astraea Dreams ($4.60)…Fast Intention ($9.60) ridden by Joe Crispin won the first 440-yard race of the meeting in :22.25 seconds. Winning conditioner Scott Raley joined Donald Young atop the Quarter horse trainer standings at two wins apiece.
Connie Doll leads the Quarter horse jockey standings with three wins, followed by Crispin with two…Stitch Mitchell and Maury Eskenazi of KRKO AM 1380 served as honorary stewards for the third race.
Jockey Pedro Terrero was fined $100 for careless riding aboard seventh-place finisher Slim Pickins in the $50,000 Auburn Handicap last Monday.
Live racing continues Saturday with first post at 2:15 p.m. The featured eighth race is a $17,600 allowance/optional claiming race for 3-year-old fillies, and marks the return of Northwest Farms’ Kids Kooler, runner-up in the 2010 Barbara Shinpoch Stakes. Simulcast action includes Washington-bred Atta Boy Roy in the $100,000 Aristides Stakes (G3) at six furlongs. Listed at 6-1 on the morning line, Atta Boy Roy will be ridden by Preakness Stakes winning jockey Jesus Castanon. Post time is 2:29 p.m.
