Kentwood cheer all girl stunt team brings home national title

Kentwood High School’s cheer team's four girl stunt group consisting of Nichole Griffin, Payton Kalka, Torey Robinson and Alexia Thomas placed first at the UCA High School National Championships.

There were 26 entries from many of the top competitive high school teams in the country. Out of the 26 entries, the top five teams are invited to Orlando to represent USA by competing in the UCA High School Worlds Championships on Feb. 9. This is the first group from Kentwood to win a national title in the All Girl Stunt Group division.

The team is coached by Kim Kawachi and Tyler Janes. They have won over a dozen consecutive state titles and had several top five places at National’s. They also coach Mattson Middle School where they have had three consecutive state titles.
