Kentwood tennis finishes third in tourney | High School Sports

The Kentwood tennis team took third place in the SPSL 4A league tournament that finished Tuesday at Auburn Riverside. The Conks finished with 25 team points, while Thomas Jefferson won with 45 points.

The doubles team of Megan Charlton and Kathryn Araki earned second place, falling to the top-seeded pair from Thomas Jefferson in the championship match — 6-1, 6-1.

Kentwood head coach Ingrid Bakke said Charlton and Araki only started playing together this year and the strong showing should help them moving forward.

"Now that Kathryn and Megan have a tournament under their belt, we look forward to districts and hope they continue to mesh together as a doubles team," Bakke said. "The goal is to make it to state."

The district tournament starts Memorial Day weekend at the Olympia Tennis Club. State will be held the the last weekend of May in Richland.
