Eastsiders named to Washington Lacrosse HOF
Eastside lacrosse coaches Susan Haviland of Carnation and Vernon A. Smith of Maple Valley have recently been selected for 2008 induction into the Washington State Lacrosse Hall of Fame. The Eastside lacrosse icons, who have been instrumental in growing the sport in the state, join a class of five to enter the state’s lacrosse hall.
The induction ceremony, which will be held at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, will get underway at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. Tickets are $60 for dinner and ceremonies.
Smith, 58, of Maple Valley, is a practicing attorney and coach with the Maple Valley Lacrosse Club, which he helped found. After coming to Seattle in the 1970s with a collegiate lacrosse background from Johns Hopkins, Smith helped form the Washington Lacrosse Counsel, which evolved to become the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association – the local governing body of boys lacrosse in the state. He currently serves as the organization’s president.
