Talk about starting the season on the right foot.
The Kentwood girls basketball team did just that this past weekend, sweeping through the Nike Northwest Invitational in Beaverton, Ore.
The Conquerors culminated the weekend on Saturday with a 74-67 win over St. Mary's of Stockton, Calif. St. Mary's came into the game as the top-ranked team in the nation.
Lindsey Moore, the SPSL North's MVP a year ago, led the Conquerors with 18 points. She also was named the tournament MVP.
Courtney Johnson added 16 points for the Conks. Also reaching double figures were Kylie Huerta (13) and Jessie Genger (12). Genger joined Moore on the all-tournament team.
Kentwood opened the tournament with a 53-38 win over Southridge, Ore. The Conks continued the momentum with a 69-43 throttling of Sacramento.
