With the 2016-2017 school year starting, the fall sports season is upon us. The Kentlake girls swim team has had a different start already, with the co-head coaches, Erin Eronemo and Patty Swedberg and diving coach Sheila Clark all being first year coaches.

Another change to the team was the top three swimmers from last year graduated in June, Eronemo said. But the team has some very strong swimmers who have competed in state in recent years. She said their strongest event is diving, with the strength for the team being their overall depth. Senior captain Katie Believeau competed at state last year, along with sophomore Cassie Padilla in the diving event. Eronemo said both divers are looking to place in state this year.

The team’s top senior swimmers are Captains Carmen Conforti and Ashtyn Collins who competed at state on a relay last year, she said. Their strongest juniors are Brittney Figaro and Melody Graham. Top sophomores are Hannah Ruckman and Kendra Walmsley, with their strongest freshman being Lexi Gleck.

All of the top girls will be battling for spots on their A-relays which have a good shot to compete at state. Belivau is also the only returning state competitor.

Ereonemo is excited for this year’s swim season and their shot at competing at state.

The first meet of the new season is Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Kentlake heads to Covington to face Tahoma at 3:30 p.m. at the Covington Aquatics Center.
