The Conks start season with two wins, one loss

The Kentwood Conquerors played Auburn Mountainview on Nov. 30 at home.

The Conks, despite their best efforts, lost 57-44. The girls started off strong, scoring the first basket of the game, but came up short in the end.

Loriaunna Sanchez, junior, played to her best abilities. She scored many times and had no issues when it came to stealing the ball from Auburn Mountainview and taking it down the court to take a shot.

Aivine Soakai, junior, is another all-star from this game. She too made many attempts at making a basket, and succeeded multiple times.

Manmeet Dhaliwal, junior, did her best at defending her team’s basket. She guarded girls that were much taller than she is, being only 5 feet, 4 inches.

This year, there are no seniors on Kentwood’s girls basketball team, making it mostly juniors.

So far, the Conks have beat Lindbergh High School 66-34, and also beat Franklin Pierce High School 71-40 and are currently in fifth place in the North Puget Sound League 4A Cascade Division.

Their next game is an away game on Friday, Dec. 8 against Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines at 7 p.m.

Tahoma High School is currently in first place with two wins and one loss so far in the 4A Cascade Girls Basketball Standings.

They won their last game against Enumclaw High School with a score of 48-36. Their next game is against Kennedy Catholic High School on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in Burien.
