County trail project on hold

The King County Parks department announced the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail North project has been put on hold pending additional funding.

The project included work from the Cedar River Trail to Southeast Kent Kangley Road.

Free boater education course

To operate a boat with 15 horsepower or higher, boaters need to have their Washington State Boater Education Card.

Those who were born before Jan. 1, 1955 were exempt but may choose to get a card if they plan to boat in Canada or Oregon.

The classes offer students the chance to interact with an instructor who is an experienced boater. After completing the class, students will send in their application along with $10 to the Washington State Parks department and a copy of course completion.

Classes will be held at the Black Diamond Police Department, 25510 Lawson Street, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 and April 20.

Monthly meeting and special event

The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council will hold its monthly meeting from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at Maple Valley Fire Station No. 81.

Director John Taylor from the Department of Local Services will be in attendance. The department helps provide services to those in unincorporated King County.

City launches new software

The city of Maple Valley announced Jan. 25 the Parks and Recreation Department has launched a new registration software, PerfectMind. It will be available online Feb. 5.

Users will be able to register for classes and programs, reserve park facilities, update payment information and manage activity calendars from any device.

The new database will require existing and new customers to create a new account the first time they log in.

Local student serves as page

Chenaniah Osborn, a homeschool student from Covington, served as a Legislative page last week sponsored by House of Representatives State Rep. Pat Sullivan.

According to a release, pages hold a variety of responsibilities including participating in mock committee hearings and drafting their own bills.
