Man charged with indecent exposure after trail incident

An Auburn man was found roaming around Lake Wilderness without any clothes on.

Kenton Alan Shaull, 55, of Auburn was charged with one count of indecent exposure following an incident in Maple Valley.

Shaull was booked Sept. 19 and released on a $15,000 bond later that day.

His next court appearance was an arraignment Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Regional Justice Center in Kent.

Around 7 p.m. Sept. 18, deputies were dispatched to reports of a naked man attempting to fight people on a trail near Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley, charging documents stated.

While deputies were en route, the documents continued, they were notified the two were no longer in a physical altercation with each other. It was reported the naked male was walking along the Lake Wilderness trail.

Once on scene, deputies spoke with an unidentified female who pointed them in the direction of where Shaull was last seen.

Deputies were searching for Shaull when he emerged from the bushes with blood coming from his mouth, the documents stated.

The man who reportedly got into the altercation with Shaull was also contacted by deputies.

The documents stated both men were covered in mud and dirt; it appeared they had been rolling around on the ground.

Shaull reportedly told deputies the male subject had located him in the woods masturbating prior to the two of them getting into a physical altercation. The documents also stated, Shaull reported the male displayed a firearm during the altercation.

He also told deputies, he went for a drive and felt the trail was private enough for him to have some alone time.

The male subject also spoke with deputies at the scene. He told them he and his wife were walking along the trail when they saw Shaull.

He reported he did have his firearm on him but that he didn’t draw it, according to the documents.

The male subject reported to deputies that he hit Shaull and put him into a choke hold. He reportedly let up once Shaull began losing consciousness.

He also stated once Shaull heard him and his wife approaching, he began to walk away attempting to cover himself up.

The documents stated, he asked Shaull what he was doing and within a minute he was dressed and told the couple, “I wasn’t naked.”

The female subject who pointed deputies in the direction of Shaull was the male subject’s wife, she also spoke with deputies following the incident.

She told deputies they were walking along the trail when they came across Shaull. She added once he heard them approach, he turned around and faced them.

She also told deputies Shaull was naked, he was reportedly holding his shorts in his hand while his shirt was draped around his neck.

Her husband told him to stop, she said, and that is when she left. The documents stated, she went down the hill because she had the couple’s dog with her.

She reportedly ran into two other female subjects and that is when 911 was called.

Shaull was transported to an emergency room for treatment of his injuries. When asked if Shaull wanted to assist in prosecution against the male subject for assaulting him, Shaull answered “No, I just want this to be over with.”

While at the hospital, the charging documents stated Shaull invoked his rights and declined talking with deputies.

It was reported that among his belongings were several porn magazines and other sexual items were found in a bag he was carrying.

Deputies also spoke with the other two female subjects who the wife ran into prior to calling 911. The first told deputies she witnessed Shaull swing his bag at the couple before attempting to leave the scene. That is when the two men got into a pushing match, she said according to the documents.

The second female told deputies similar statements to her friend — she witnessed the couple interact with a naked man (later determined to be Shaull) before the two men started to push each other.

According to the charging documents because Shaull was previously convicted of indecent exposure in April 2000, this indecent exposure is a felony.

His criminal history also shows that Shaull had a prior indecent exposure conviction dismissed and he was also acquitted of a rape of a child charge.

Editor’s note: The names of the other subjects were not released in the charging documents.
