Police investigating attempted child luring in Maple Valley

The incident with an 11 year old took place around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday near the library.

There have been recent reports on community Facebook pages regarding attempted kidnapping or child luring in the Cherokee Bay area and near the Maple Valley Library.

The alleged incidents in Cherokee Bay have been investigated by Maple Valley Police, who determined there is no evidence to support the reports of suspicious activities, according to a Facebook post from the city of Maple Valley Thursday.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a separate incident that occurred on Wednesday outside Maple Valley city limits near the Maple Valley Library.

Around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, an 11-year-old boy began walking home along 214th Avenue Southeast after exiting his school bus at Southeast 248th Street/214th Avenue Southeast, Ryan Abbott, media relations for the Sheriff’s Office, said.

It was reported as the child walked home, a silver/grey pick-up truck with a black canopy pulled up alongside him, Abbott said.

The driver then reportedly asked if the child wanted a ride. The driver was described as an older male with a scruffy beard.

The 11 year old declined the request and ran straight home.

Abbott said once he got home, he told his parents what happened and they called 911.

Police are investigating the incident.
