School’s out Friday in Kent because of storm

Too much slush, ice in parking lots; winter break next week

Due to continued safety concerns brought on by recent winter storms, all Kent School District schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 15.

Schools have been closed every day this week. Schools also will be closed next week for winter break. The Central Administration Office will be open Friday as well as Feb. 19-22. All district sponsored activities are canceled.

Superintendent Calvin Watts posted a message on YouTube to explain the closure. Watts said he understands the concerns by parents about the continued closures but that the safety of students and staff is the number one priority for the district, which has 42 schools.

Watts said the parking lots and walkways at some schools remain unsafe because of snow, ice and slush.

“We want to make sure all areas are safe,” he said.

Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, Feb. 25.
