MARTHA JEAN CONROD

Martha Jean Conrod, 90, of Maple Valley, Washington, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2019.

Martha was born in Udall, Kansas to Ellis and Fern Sherrard on May 18, 1929. In Winfield, Kansas, she graduated from High School and took College courses. She was a Leader: President of her sorority, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a sorority involved in community service. President of the Beechcraft Wives Club. Girl Scouts leader, teaching compassion and skills to young girls.

Her work included Secretary for the Superintendent of Schools for Cowley County, Kansas. She was a Bookkeeper for the Petroleum and Banking industries. After her daughters left for college, she worked for NY Life.

Martha moved her family ten times throughout the U.S. (Colorado, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida), with her husband, Don, an engineer who worked for Beechcraft and Boeing in the Aerospace Industry, involved with Mercury, Gemini and Apollo 1-12, the Space Shuttle, and more.

Martha and Don lived for 35 years in Kent, Washington on their ranch raising cows, sheep, and horses. And most importantly, spoiling their Collie Sam and Golden Retrievers Bear and Miss Taffy Sue.

Martha is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald Conrod; her daughters Gail Conrod of Minneapolis, MN and Gwen Colgan of Bainbridge Island, WA; her granddaughter Martina List of St. Paul, MN and grandson Peter List of Malmö, Sweden; her brother Bob Sherrard of Winfield, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Humane Society. As the wife of a WWII Veteran, she will be interred at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the MultiCare Covington ER. Martha will remain in our hearts forever.
