Kentwood High School’s Tyler Cowan, baseball, was selected as the Covington-Maple Valley Reporter’s Male Athlete of the Week for May 10.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: Math is my favorite. As much as I struggle, my teacher Mr. Landry helps explain how to answer the questions in different ways that make sense to me.

Q: What other activities do you participate in?

A: My family is all about sports! That’s what I love to do.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: My dad, J.C. Cowan, helps me on and off the field, always telling me to do the little things, then the big things will happen.

Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?

A: Look up my favorite baseball player and watch his highlights and mechanics that will improve my game.

Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?

A: Not really a song, but a motivational video called “Why Do We Fall?” by Hans Zimmer.

From the sideline: “Tyler, only a sophomore, is the most driven member of the team, always looking for an edge to improve his game or help the team win. Tyler has fought through injuries all season and now resides as the starting shortstop, batting second in the lineup. For the season, he hit .317 with 22 bases on balls, leading the team with both 19 hits and 20 runs scored.”
