Tahoma High School’s Gracie Johnson, cheer was selected as the Covington Maple Valley Reporter’s Female Athlete of the Week for Feb. 8.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: Sports Medicine 3

Q: What other activities do you participate in?

A: Besides Tahoma cheer, I have done competitive cheer since I was 8 years old. I also enjoy being involved in leadership at my school and spending time with my friends and family.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: My parents — they have provided me with the opportunity to do what I love and try new things but most importantly, they have shown me constant love and support which I am thankful for.

Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?

A: My pre-game/competition rituals include getting ready with my teammates, handshakes with some of my best friends and always a prayer.

Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?

A: Our team hype song is “I like it.”

From the Sideline

“This young lady has been an inspirational leader for the cheer team. As a senior she has made it her goal to leave behind a legacy, working with the younger athletes throughout the summer and always willing to show up and help a team or athlete without hesitation. She is typically first one at practice and last to leave and willing to do anything the team needs, sacrificing the front center spot at any cost of the teams needs her elsewhere. A true example of a leader by example and not through power.”
